Actavis Diazepam is a benzodiazepine drug that works on conditions such as anxiety, symptoms caused or related to withdrawal of alcohol like tremors or agitations, and adjacent treatment for some seizure types & spasms of skeletal spasms. In some cases, it is also used with other combinations as well. Actavis Diazepam is available in below strengths; 2 mg/5 mg/10mg.
Actavis Diazepam belongs to the group of long-acting benzodiazepine and has some anticonvulsant properties. It has zero effect on the GABA levels and glutamate decarboxylase activity. However, it has a minimal effect on the gamma-aminobutyric acid transaminase activity. Like other benzodiazepine drugs such as clonazepam and flurazepam, it also acts via the binding sites of a micromolar benzodiazepine as Ca2+ channel blockers. It also inhibits the depolarization-sensitive Calcium Uptake in the preparations of rat nerve cell, significantly.
Actavis Diazepam is prescribed in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks, and symptoms related to acute alcohol withdrawal. It also has uses as a vital premedication for anxiolysis, inducing sedation, and amnesia prior to some medical procedures such as endoscopy. It can also be prescribed as a treatment for benzodiazepine dependence because it has long half-life that helps in easier reduction of doses. There will be low toxicity in cases of overdose.
